Team Encycle

Updates from the latest adventures of Team Encycle:

13.09.09: Bourn to Run, Cambridgeshire, UK

Roger, Gwyn and Ben Timbers

The English contingent of Team Encycle: Roger, Gwyn and Ben Timbers were on good form in the 10 km ‘Bourn to Run’ event, in Bourn village near Cambridge. Despite having a nasty cold, Ben put in a great performance and clocked 46 minutes. Podium finishes (if there had been a podium) for both Gwyn and Roger who charged home in 56 minutes which secured a first for Gwyn in the 60+ F category and a 3rd for Roger in the 60+ M category.

02.05.09: Half Ironman, Busselton, WA

Dan cruising on the run leg

After competing in and enjoying the Busselton Half Ironman in 2008 Dan returned for more punishment this year. The beautiful WA weather continued and the competitors woke to a chilly but calm Busso morning. The sun soon came up to reveal flat calm conditions for the swim and a windless bike ride. The conditions and a healthy amount of training over the past 12 months helped Dan to smash last years time by 27 minutes, finishing in a respectable 5:02; Unfortunately this meant less advertising time for encycle!

01.03.09: Karri Cup, Northcliffe, WA

Jake caked in mud

Taking a further leap ahead in the who has the dirtiest encycle jersey competition Jake Hannah took part in the 115km mountain bike enduro, the Karri Cup. Based in the tiny town of Northcliffe, in the heart of the south west's Karri forests, the course was packed with rolling hills, stunning scenery and a smattering of singletrack. The excitement levels were further lifted a notch by a huge thunderstorm in the late morning adding the additional hazards of a flooded trail and lightning bolts.

10.01.09: Cycles Bespoke 4 Hour Challenge, Goat Farm, Greenmount, WA

Dan, Jake and Amy at the finish

Survival was the name of the game as Dan Timbers, Jake Hannah and Amy Herod donned the green and white of Team Encycle for the Cycles Bespoke 4 Hour Challenge, an endurance mountain bike race in the heat of the WA summer around the super steep and technical course at the Goat Farm. After a couple of killer early laps in the scorching heat the temperature dropped a little as the evening set in and most riders actually began to enjoy themselves. As the sun set over Perth city all were more than happy to finish their last lap and enjoy the social atmosphere at the BBQ afterwards.

07.12.08: Ironman Western Australia, Busselton, WA

Dan at the finish with his medal

Adding to the already impressive list of endurance events, Dan Timbers took on the ultimate challenge – a full Ironman. Setting off at 6.15 am, the race comprised swimming 3.8km around Busselton jetty, cycling 180 km and topping all of that off with a marathon run of 42.2km. Arriving back at the finish line at 6.13 pm (yes, 11 hours 58 minutes later). Dan’s first words were “I did it! That was brilliant!” Confirming that he is indeed, a complete nutter.

Below are a couple more shots of Dan in action.

31:11:08: WA Alcoa 12 Hour Mountain Bike Enduro, Northcliffe, WA

David in transition

The Alcoa 12 hour is the highlight of the mountain biking calender. Teams or soloists race from 6pm till 6am competing to race around a fast and fun 13km course located near Jarrahdale, to the South West of Perth.

Back in the green and white of Encycle were Amy and Owen Herod who were joined by David Leslie. They rode a strong and controlled race to come home as comfortable winners in the mixed trio category; Team Encycle's first victory!

08.11.08: Team Encycle ride – to Kings Park and beyond...

Team Encycle enjoying the sunshine in Kings Park

A team social ride on the most terrific cycling day of the summer so far. Heading up from the city to Kings Park and working their way around and returning along the river to East Perth for rewards of coffee, cake and big brekkies. No punctures or mishaps and no wind – what could be better?

Team (En)cyclists out enjoying the weather were:

Amy Herod, Owen Herod, Marissa Dewan, Cameron Punton, Jake Hannah, Hugh Warner, Jenny Campbell, Dan Timbers and Anne-Marie Bremner.

02.11.08: Anaconda Adventure Race, Geographe Bay, WA

Jake on the mountain bike leg

Jake Hannah and Dan Timbers completed the testing swim-kayak-off road run-mountain bike course in 5 hours and 2 minutes. Extremely respectable considering Dan was ‘taking it easy’ (he didn’t want to injure himself in the run up to the IronMan in December) and Jake had a minor mechanical issue on the mountain bike leg – his pedal broke!
